About this modern architecture photography: A simple, high contrast black and white street photograph of the old cobblestone roadway with train tracks. This photograph was taken on the iconic River St. in Savannah Georgia because of its Southern charm. Part of the intrigue of the area is the stones themselves. They were originally used as ballast material on the ships that sailed into Savannah's harbor. The ships used chert, quartz, granite, basalt and other rocks from their initial locations and discarded the stones upon unloading their cargo in Savannah. Savannah settlers found the stones to be an affordable and abundant building material so they were repurposed throughout the Historic District. This image is also available in a color version.
